Ford’s Mustang fits that bill. It’s in a class of it own with nothing else to measure it against. You either want a Mustang or you don’t.

And if you do want one, you might be interested in the fact that Ford has just added a whole new load of tweaks to the basic formula. Some of these mods address the car’s poor showing in the Euro NCAP crash tests.

It now has airbags that inflate properly (always a good thing) and box-tick- ing additions like distance alerts, lane assist, lane departure warning adaptive cruise. Still only got three NCAP stars, but that’s better than two, eh?

Other updates are pretty extensive and include more power for the big 5.0 litre V8 engine, a digital dash, LED headlights, a new 10-speed auto box and driving modes that include a customisable set-up and a drag-strip function.

There’s more. A new start button pulsates its red LED lights 30 times a second until you press it.
